sync via tapush/activesync Thunderbird client to/from ZXMobile does not function

Mozilla's Thunderbird lacks native carddav support; that's been an issue for years now, with no plans on deck anytime soon.

For awhile, the Zindus plug-in (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thu...zindus/?src=ss) provided a Sync-TBird-to-Zimbra solution. Unfortunately, that plugin's no longer functional or supported.

As Zextras' zxmobile is an activesync-compatible provider, activesync is an option ...

SoGo's 'Connector' Thunderbird extension (SOGo: Frontends) works over ActiveSync, but only for old versions of TBird.

There IS one activesync client available for TBird that's currently being developed, and works well with a number of ActiveSync providers: tzpush

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thu.../addon/tzpush/

I've attempted to connect tzpush to a ZXMobile-enabled ZImbra instance.

I see the Thunderbird 'device' registered in the ZXMobile admin UI.

Unfortunately, on exec of 'sync', there are no contacts transferred at all.

I've verified that it works as advertised with both Zarafa & Horde. It does not seem to work with Zimbra/ZXMobile.

Thunderbird is a widely used client. Lack of network addressbook/contact sync is a blocker to adoption of Zimbra/ZXMobile.

Has tzpush functionality been demonstrated for sync to/from ZXMobile?

If not, it'd be useful -- to both existing ZXMobile installs, AND to potential/new ones -- if there might be some outreach/communication from Zextras with the tzpush developer (who seems to be quite responsive ...).

    Hello pgn,
    thank you for your feedback!

We've done some usage testing on tzpush, but it's still to early to count it among the "compatible" clients: our devs will perform a full compatibility check/test session, and once tzpush will be confirmed as functional the appropriate information will be added to the ZeXtras Wiki (and announced here on the forums).

It's worth to mention that the same also applies to some mobile clients - such as Nine and MailWise for Android - but bear in mind that the testing requires a lot of time and that third-party client compatibility is not our top priority...

    Understood, thanks.

It also is worth mention that whereas many/most clients do NOT provide *unique* functionality to a large user population -- e.g. there are multiple alternatives to mobile client subscription, including at least one that uses *native* ZImbra api -- for Thunderbird there is, currently, NO working solution for use with Zimbra/Zextras -- SoGo can manage via CardDAV, but only for old(er) versions of TBird. Hence, tzpush's advantage & importance; in our experience there are a LOT of TBird users -- switching to Zimbra/Zextras becomes, at best, difficult if the key functionality of network/server contact sync is not available.

Zextras' ZXMobile has the unique opportunity to solve that need eventually, and, currently -- good or bad -- tzpush is the currently best/only option (so far as I've found)

I am the developer of tzpush. I have not come across Zextras before.
If you have any problems with tzpush, please feel free to contact me.

Tzpush does not do GAL. (as yet). Gal is searchable by activesync but does not present as a folder for sync.
