    Random Sending Problem

    Good Morning,

we are testing the last version of Zextra ZxMobile on our Zimbra Server (version 8.5). Server is running on a latest version of Centos7.

we are having several problems with outgoing email. we are testing for now only 2 account but on our server we have about 100 users.

for tests we are using 3 different Android Phone (versions 4.2.1, 4.3 and 4.4). one of these is a Samsung Phone and the "Samsung Max EAS Version" is set at 2.5 (according to your specifications).

these is the problem: sometimes each phone send e-mail without problem, sometimes, randomly, the mail stay in outgoing messages on phone for long time. In this case: sometimes the mail is sent after many tries, sometimes the mail disappared from outgoin messages but it is not sent (we can't find it in Outbox and does not arrive at destination, even if recipient is on the same server!)

In the sync.log files we found a lot of java exception.

Can you try me? we are intrested to buy Zextra suite but we must be sure that everything works fine!

please tell me if you need some log file.

    Sorry for my poor english!

    Best Regards,
    Andrea Fabio d'Anzeo

    Hello Andrea,
    welcome to the forums!

Delay in sending emails from a mobile phone is not uncommon and usually caused by network errors, but the disappearance from the Outbox is indeed pretty strange...

    Could you please:
    - Delete the accounts from the mobile phones.
    - Activate an Account Logger for each test device (please name the logfiles after the Android version).
    - Create the accounts on the devices again.
    - Let the first sync fully complete.
    - Reproduce the issue.
    - Send the logfiles to community@zextras.com

    Have a nice day,
    Cine

    Hello again!

I just wanted to inform you that there's a bug in older 4.x Android versions involving the outbox which might be causing some of your issues, but there's a workaround for it: could you please try sending a meeting invitation to the 3 users synchronized with ZeXtras Mobile, accept the invitation from the phone and try sending an email again?

    Hello again!

I found the following anomalies in the logs you sent:

    Android 4.2.2 log:
    Code:
2014-11-06 13:26:23,984 SendMail[434]: [user0@email.com DEVICE0000000] warn Unable to send mail: org.openzal.zal.exceptions.ZimbraException: com.zimbra.common.service.ServiceException: system failure: Unable to send message
    [skip]
Caused by: com.zimbra.cs.mailbox.MailSender$SafeMessagingException: connect timed out; chained exception is: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out
            at com.zimbra.cs.mailclient.smtp.SmtpTransport.protocolConnect ( SmtpTransport.java:187 )
    Android 4.3 log:
    Code:
2014-11-06 13:43:10,234 SendMail[491]: [user1@email.com DEVICE0000001] warn Unable to send mail: org.openzal.zal.exceptions.ZimbraException: com.zimbra.common.service.ServiceException: system failure: Unable to send message
    [skip]
Caused by: com.zimbra.cs.mailbox.MailSender$SafeMessagingException: connect timed out; chained exception is: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out
            at com.zimbra.cs.mailclient.smtp.SmtpTransport.protocolConnect ( SmtpTransport.java:187 )
The mobile device properly sends the email, ZeXtras Mobile "passes it on" to Zimbra, which then can't connect to the SMTP server. This is probably caused by either an issue with the SMTP server(s) defined in the 'zimbraSmtpHostname' domain/server/config attribute.

In order to check the 'zimbraSmtpHostname' you need to run one of the following command based on your setup:

    `zmprov gd yourdomain.com zimbraSmtpHostname` - for the domain-level setting
    `zmprov gs yourservername zimbraSmtpHostname` - for the server-level setting
    `zmprov gcf zimbraSmtpHostname` - for the "global config"-level setting

I'd suggest to check the logs on your SMTP server to search the cause of the issue (if the SMTP server is running Zimbra, the /var/log/zimbra.log is the one you're looking for), and to make sure that your DNS resolution is properly working.

    Have a nice day,

Same issue here. This problem shows sporadically and is not always repeatable.
The mail client (IOS device in most cases) sends the email correctly, but sporadically in case of reply (smartreply operation in log files), or send new mail (SendMail operation)
we logs a system failuer timeout socket

Setting of zimbraSmtpHostname is correct and the DNS resolution is properly working.
Mail remain in outbox in IOS device (in android mailwise client this unusual behavior seems does not occur for now) and we need a user manual intervention
    to send the email again.
Please, we need to address this issue.
