    Failed to lock mailbox

    Hello,

    after a zxbackup export task, I get this error:

    com.zimbra.cs.mailbox.MailboxLock$LockFailedExcept ion: timeout

    always the same two accounts! mailboxd restart does not help!
    after a while the process dies and the export is not completely done!

    System: Ubuntu 12.04 - zextras 1.8.11 - zimbra 8.0.4 - 8 GB of RAM


    any hints?

    Hello Velvet!

    This is similar to the issue you reported in your last post: it looks like there are one or more items that cause Zimbra to run out of heap space...
    I'd suggest you to add some more RAM to the server, update the heap size accordingly (the `mailboxd_java_heap_size` property of the local config) and check your JVM settings - esp. the -XX:PermSize and -XX:MaxPermSize properties, refer to Performance Tuning Guidelines for Large Deployments - Zimbra :: Wiki for the most appropriate values.

    If this does not work, you should search the affected mailbox for items that might be causing this issue, e.g. items with large or invalid attachments.

    Hello again!

    If raising the RAM for the server is not possible, we can further investigate the issue by checking a heap dump created just after the OutOfMemory error. If you wish to provide us with one, please add the following options to the "mailboxd_java_option" setting:
    Code:
    -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/path/for/the/dump/file
    Make sure that the path you specify exists and that the 'zimbra' user has r/w permissions on it (e.g. /opt/zimbra/log).

    As soon as the issue happens again, an Heap Dump should be saved in the path: compress it and send it to community@zextras.com, we'll be glad to have a look at it!

    Hello Cine,

    - I played with the memory values ​​and now the backup is working again, but the export shows the same behavior!
    - I generated a dump file but this file is 2,7GB and with gzip 322MB - I guess that can not send by mail
    - I will send your a link to this dump file!

    Hello Cine,

    I've tested:

    - smart scan is working
    - full scan is working sometimes, nondeterministic for me
    - export never working, always the same account makes problems (the account is working without any problems or missing mails, task ...) proc stuck
    - zmblobchk no error
    - mysql check no error
    - reindex all accounts
    - test import from the "normal" backup, all accounts ok but the account which makes problem at the export task is not there

    any idea?

    The Devs, which are at least 37.5 times better than me when dealing with Java memory dumps, are having a look at the file you sent us and I hope I'll be able to give you a feedback very soon.
    Meanwhile, can you please confirm that when the FullScan fails it returns the very same error (java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space) as when the export fails?

    Hmmm...
    I know this might sound really stupid, but it happened to me quite some times so I'll just ask: If your server is running on a virtual environment are you sure that the amount of usable RAM memory is not limited by the hypervisor (e.g. for ESX, open the vSphere Client -> right click on the VM -> Edit Settings -> Resources -> Memory and check that the "Unlimited" checkbox is checked)?

    sorry, I forgot to say this is not a VM - it's physics, with 8 GB of RAM

    UPDATE:
    I have found one other account and these was completely broken. I have deleted and re-created, now it looks better (no OutOfMemoryError in mailbox.log ).
    I'll just run an export now ...
