Does Zextras give ZOS users the ability to sync through MAPI?

    Hi,

It looks like MAPI based sync is only available to Zimbra Network Edition users. I am using Zimbra Open Source through a provider and was trying to create a calendar entry through the latest Zimbra Desktop but kept getting errors. It seems this is because Zimbra Open Source doesn't give users to sync using the MAPI protocol.

So, is there a Zextras module that offers this ability to users of the Zimbra Open Source version? Like Zextras mobile?

Or, is that just for mobile sync?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello Zimaster and welcome to the ZeXtras Forum!

Zimbra Netword Edition doesn't have any MAPI protocol implemented server side, exactly like the Open Source Version.
ZCO is a PlugIn Software sold with the NE to Install on Outlook based on SOAP connections.
Also Zimbra Desktop use only SOAP protocol .
ZeXtras Mobile is based on ActiveSync Protocol and allow you to connect almost all the Phones, Outlook 2013, and Windows 8 Mail.

    Bests.

Ah! The support team of a provider in India has been misleading me, then. May be not intentionally, but they kept saying that Network edition was needed mainly because of MAPI for the Outlook connector.

I guess Zextras Mobile is the equivalent alternative for Zimbra Open Source but only from Outlook 2013 onwards?

A user with an open source account (Zimbra 7.2) was trying to create a calendar entry (meeting invite) using the latest edition of Zimbra Desktop (7.2.2). However, the 'Attendees', 'Location' and 'Resources' tabs are greyed out. He is able to save the appointment, but when he tries to forward it as an email, he gets an error saying 'An unknown (mail.MUST_BE_ORGANIZER) error has occurred'. He is able to create a full-fledged meeting invite in Webmail but not in Zimbra Desktop. If he were using Zextras Mobile, would it solve this problem on Zimbra Desktop?

Does this work with Blackberry devices or would it require an Astrasync licence?

Thanks in advance for your patience.

It might help to leave ZimbraDesktop in favor of other software, but it has nothing to do with zimbra soap protocol.

It works out of the box with latest Blackberry devices with Os 10 that supports the activesync protocol (already tested with ZxMobile)

The client in question switched to Ubuntu as part of a switch to open source OS, servers and apps to avoid the increasing Microsoft licensing costs. Unfortunately, Zimbra Desktop seems to be the only cross-platform application available that's as feature rich as Exchange. I tried telling them they should use Webmail, instead, but some clients can be a little set in their ways.

Thanks for all the other clarifications, too. They are helpful in nudging us closer to a decision to purchase the Zextras Suite.
