    External SMTP Host

    Hi Cine,

As per discussion with you, i remember you recommending against using an external SMTP Host in front of Zimbra, however i am stuck in a fix here. The location where we are deploying the zimbra server, there are bandwidth issues at times, and hence an external MX is required, which can queue the mails when required (i.e. when the zimbra server is inaccessible). Can you please comment on the following:

    1. What solution to be used ? I have read about assp, but is it really workable ?
    2. Since the above becomes our incoming filter/ MX, should it be made as outgoing filter as well ? So it can whitelist email ids ? (Using ASSP with Zimbra - Zimbra :: Wiki)

Looking forward for your advise and recommendation.

    Thanks

    Hello Anandi!

I never tried ASSP, I usually use Zimbra for this kind of setups - with postfix relaying all mail to the real server... I also tested mxHero, and while I never used it as a production solution I really like its UI and modular structure so I'd take a look at that also...

Mind that this is my personal opinion as a system administrator, not a corporate guideline

Looks like mxHero at present doesn't support Zimbra 8.0.1

But the product still looks promising...

The Zimlet might not be compatible with Zimbra 8.x, but the appliance does not have any software requirement: http://www.mxhero.com/faq

    Ok Thanks.

It looks like their appliance is compatible with vmware, so i need to get a convertor for xen/kvm. Further it seems they are too dependent on java. I am already at times scared with java on zimbra, having the filter server also run java is scary.

I will surely explore this, but would prefer different option.
